The one day rain delay
- from Wednesday to Thursday - for the Thompson 75 lap
short sprint race on Nextel Cup Drivers Night not only
cost RMR another day trackside but also complicated the
recover from an evening of poor results.
Disaster first struck Travis in his heat with a hard hit
into the turn two wall that caused substantial chassis
damage. Cushman Competition stepped up to help and the
#44 was on the way to Distance Racing in Maine in the
Cushman trailer within an hour of the impact. The #29
returned to Maine in the RMR hauler in the #44's spot.
Jeff Taylor at Distance got a start on the repairs that
evening.
Ben posted a seventh in the first heat and had a bunch
of cars to pass to get to the front. As the race settled
out and the ranks were thinned by a mid pack multi-car
crash, Ben moved to the lead chased by Cassius Clark.
Ben could hold Cassius at bay even though Cassisus was
hooked up low and in the exit of the corners. But Ben
was having a tire go down - or the bead pull away from
the rim - and eventually scraped the turn two wall and
retired in a shower of sparks to record a fourteenth
place finish. |
