The
TD Banknorth 250
Trevor #41
- 6th Ben #4 - 39th Travis #44 - DNQ
The
33rd running of "The 250" saw highs and lows for Richard
Moody Racing.
Unfortunately, there were more of the lows. Only the #41
driven by Trevor Sanborn finished the 250, with a fine
run to sixth spot.
For the
#44 with Travis Khiel, things started to go wrong when
his finish in qualifying Heat #4 was disallowed in tech.
Then forced to start at the back of the pack in Consi
#3, Travis made it up to fourth spot - but only three
transferred to the 250. In the last chance race, Travis
slowed with a flat left rear and exited the track behind
a tow truck with no shot at the 250.
Ben in
the #4 cruised to a easy win in Heat #3 for a second row
starting spot in the 250. After watching Dale Shaw in
the #60 and eventual 250 winner Jeremie Whorff in the
#00 battle a bit, Ben took the lead on lap 10 and took
off, figuring it was safer to be out ahead alone. But by
lap 22 Ben was catching the tail end of the field. And
some of those cars that were fighting to stay on the
lead lap tangled right in front of Ben. The #72 of Scott
Robbins was knocked into Ben's path, and the #4 vaulted
over the #72 and over the edge of turn three in a cloud
of dust and debris, almost rolling over. Ben was OK
except for a sore wrist, and the #4 headed to the
infield on the back of that same wrecker.
The
third car in the RMR stable was renumbered #41 and raced
in partnership with the team of Trevor Sanborn, a
teenage competitor from the Pro Series division at Beech
Ridge Motor Speedway. From the outside of the front row
in Heat #2, Trevor with polesitter Jeremie Whorff took
off from the rest of the cars. Trevor had a nice and
trouble free run to second and an eight place berth for
the 250. In the big race, Trevor ran strongly but by
mid-race went a lap down. During the final 90 laps that
ran caution free, Trevor at times was battling with
leaders Jeremie Whorff and Kyle Busch trying to get his
lap back. Just as fast but not able to grab the lap
back, Trevor put on quite a show in the #44 to post a
sixth place finish for RMR.
