PASS 2011 SLM
National Champion

Ben in the #4n secured the
PASS National Championship for the second year in a row
at the Mason-Dixon Meltdown
at Concord Speedway
on November 26th.

1) 4n - Ben Rowe - 1225 Points
2) 8/77 - Cassius Clark - 1195
3) 4s - Jay Fogleman - 1165
4) 20 - Steven Legendre - 1144
5) 26 - Preston Peltier - 831
6) 17a - Scott Alexander - 752
Ben battled shifter problems right from the start. The shifter bolts sheared off leaving the car locked in 3rd. Later pit stop
repairs left the car locked in 4th gear and many laps down but
running for the checkers.

THE WIN at the Over the Mountain 150
The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South headed back to the famed Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) on Saturday, October 29th, for the Over the Mountain 150 Super Late Model event, the second to last race of the 2011 season.  Ben battled his way to the front, claiming the win and earning the honors of the all-time wins leader in the South SLM series with seven. Ben also leads in
PASS North SLM wins.

Suspension changes to reduce bottoming were made to the new #4 following the Beech Ridge 300 lapper. But overall grip was missing at White Mountain. Moving from a mid-pack starting position as a previous 2011 winner, Ben could only make it into 7th at the checkers.

However Ben's PASS National Championship rival Jay Fogelman #4s retired early with body damage for another 23rd place finish and a huge loss of points.

PASS 300
18th after Tire Problems
The new chassis in the white/orange paint scheme had a great test day on Friday and found some good speed. After a 3rd place finish in the heat, tire problems and the resulting poor lap times were a surprise. With a two lap penalty for changing a not fully flat right front and multiple stops to adjust tire presssures and chassis settings, the #4 wound up three laps down for an
18th place finish.

Ben's PASS National Series challenger Jay Fogleman suffered mechanical problems - throttle linkage. The loss of many laps in the pits put Jay in 23rd - 23 laps behind Ben.

99th at Oxford
The highly anticipated return to Oxford Plains Speedway for the PASS SLMs went bad for the #4 on only the second lap of the heat. Starting in the last row of the twelve car heat, Ben was suddenly facing spinning cars in turn one and couldn't slow before putting the nose of the #4 into the rear wheel of a sideways Brian Hoar in the #37. Trying to go behind the #37 then sliced open the left door area of the #4.

Repairs got the #4 running for one of the consi, but the handling was off and Ben couldn't improve his position. Ben slotted into 31st for the feature with a provisional. Final adjustments
left some hope that the car would be better for the 150 laps.

At the green, Ben began to pick up positions but was not up to the speed of the leaders. With the race going caution free for the first 92 laps, Ben was only one car and about 100 yards away from going a lap down to leaders Patrick Laperle #91 and eventual winner Kyle Busch #51. But pit stops for adjustments (no tires) by many mid pack cars when cautions flew helped move the #4 forward.

Running better towards the end of the race, Ben advanced to 7th after one of the restarts before falling back to ninth behind dad Mike Rowe in the #2x and Brian Hoar in the #37.

Ben stands second in PASS North points with 1912 to Johnny Clark's 1976 markers.

8th at Thompson
At the Thompson 100 lapper, Ben had moved into the lead after two multi-car wrecks sidelined several top competitiors. Ben was battling Cassius Clark #8, Preston Peltier #26, Johnny Clark #54, and Travis Benjamin #17 at the lap 51 restart (above) when the #4 started to slid back through the pack. After a spin on lap 60, Ben hit the pits for a replacement for a flat right rear.

Ben worked his way back into the top five with the help of a Lucky Dog lap. But on the lap 86 caution Ben went to the pits for a right front tire. After Ben returned to the track, PASS officials declared the tire not flat and not permitted to be changed under series rules and issued a 2 lap penalty. Ben finished in 8th with only 98 laps scored.

5th at Beech Ridge after a Tech Problem
The RMR team had another strong run at Beech Ridge on July 9th. Starting from 11th as a 2011 race winner after the victory at Canaan, Ben had the #4 up into the top five in short order. On the lap 37 restart, a late green triggered a melee that sent a bunch of cars into the main straight wall just after the flag stand. Ben avoided any contact and wound up sitting behind the leaders.

Ben took the lead on the lap 68 restart and kept ahead of a hard charging Lonnie Sommerville in the #48 for just under 50 laps. But in the closing stages the #48 slipped ahead and pulled out a second and a half lead. Johnny Clark had climbed up from 17th to the 3rd finishing spot.

But post race inspection of the top cars found a rear deck lid height infraction on the #4. Ben was dropped from 2nd to 5th (the last car on the lead lap) and fined 25 points, dropping him down to second in the points, 17 markers behind Johnny Clark.

The Win for Ben
at the Motor Mile
PASS National
The RMR #4 headed down to Radford Virginia for the second of six rounds in the PASS National
Series Championship.

Ben qualified 7th in the time trials and ran in the top five for the second half of the race.

After a series of yellows, the final restart with 10 to go saw Ben and Jay Fogleman put on a fan
pleasing shootout for the win with Andy Loden right behind in third.

“There is no better guy to race like that than Jay Fogleman,” said Rowe. “We hit a few times, but you didn’t see either of us end up in the fence. That is just good racing with 10 laps to go. He was going way down on the apron. I thought he was by me once and I was about ready to pull in behind him, but we motored back up alongside him. It was a blast racing him like that.”

With a fifth at the Easter Bunny and now the win at Motor Mile, Ben stands second in the national points, just two behind Fogleman. The next three Nationals are at Northern tracks -
Thompson, Beech Ridge, and White Mountain - so Ben in a strong position in the National series.

2nd in the PASS 150 at Star on May 14th
At the wild return to Star Speedway by PASS North, Ben and the #44 definitely captured the award for highest finish with the most damage. Ben fought back from mutiple incidents to score his second podium finish of 2011 and take over the PASS North points lead 441 to 433 from Johnny Clark.

After starting from 9th, Ben's first incident came on the lap 10 restart when a missed shift several cars ahead accordianed the inside line with Ben right in the middle. At mid-race another hit to the nose required a pit stop for quick repairs.

Ben was back on track and moving up as a wild series of tangles and yellows shook up the running order in the last eight laps. First Scott Chubbuck #77 and Johnny Clark #54, after restarting 1st and 2nd, spun off turn two when Chubbuck had a flat. In sixth on the following restart, Ben missed a spinning Richie Dearborn #33 who had a flat in turn four.

In the second row for the green-white-checker restart, Ben first buckled up the hood underneath the #73 of Joey Doiron on lap 149. Then as the #73 got sideways in the last turn off the bumper of Lonnie Sommerville in the #48, Ben had a hard hit from the #73 in the right rear at the start of the mainstraight. But Ben kept his foot in it and hauled the #4 across the finish line for 2nd with substantial body damage and the right rear flat.
