Ben Overcomes Flat Tire for Fifth
“This track is very flat,” said Rowe. “It’s so flat I got up into a guy and caused a big mess. We had a right-front tire go down.
We came in and the crew changed it. We got our laps back and got a good finish out of the deal. We struggled a little bit
with the set up on Saturday. This place is tough.”

PASS NORTH 2008 BANQUET

At the Eighth Annual PASS North Banquet of Champions
held at Verillo's Conference Center in Westbrook, ME,
Ben receives the trophy for second place in the PASS
North points standings
Trevor Sanborn 4th at the Mason Dixon
In the 250 lap Super Late Model portion of the weekend,
Trevor scored a 4th after leading the race and battling with
the eventual winner Johnny Clark. Trevor's stats for the
2008 PASS SOUTH season show 2 wins in 4 starts with
3 Top 5s and 4 Top 10s and 23 laps led.

Ben Finishes 10th at the Fall Brawl
and places 2nd in North SLM Points
Entering the final event of the PASS North SLM season, Ben led Johnny Clark #54 by only three points - 2379 vs. 2376 - after the two worst finishes for each were dropped as per the PASS points rules. With Ben posting a 4th in his heat to Johnny's heat win, the two racers were then tied in points. Whoever would be ahead would be the North SLM Champion for 2008.

All the racers fought the lack of grip in the old pavement and the lack of an outside line for passing as they battled in the 150 lap, no pit stop, no tires standard distance race.

Ben and Johnny both started just outside the top ten as 2008 past racers winners per PASS handicapping rules. At the green both began to cut through the field, but the #54 had the edge on the #4. Johnny made it into the top five and then Ben closed right to his rear bumper. But in the final stages the handling on #4 went away and Ben had a big moment on the main straight where the car pivoted right and headed for the wall. Ben caught it but fell back several spots to finish in 10th to Johnny's 5th.
The five spots meant a 10 point final advantage in the
SLM Championship chase for Johnny in the #54.

Ben Places 7th in the #4, Trevor a DQ in the #44

In the longest test for PASS teams of the season, the RMR fell short of the performances hoped for in the PASS 300.

Even with a setup mirroring that of the #44, the #4 never had the speed to run with the top cars in the 300 lap feature. Ben ran from 5th to 10th and spent much of the race near Travis Benjamin in the #17. With two races dropped from the points total (best 12 of 14 a new procedure for 2008), Ben and Johnny Clark in the #54 stand within 4 finishing spots of each other. The battle for the championship comes down to the last race at Wiscasset, the Fall Brawl on Saturday, October 4th.

Trevor had the #44 flying for most of the race, leading 226 laps and lapping up to about 10th place. But forced to pit for fuel and tires just 41 laps from the finish, the #44 just didn't run as strongly on the new set of tires.
Trevor faded back to fourth as Johnny Clark had the field covered.

After the race the top five finishers plus other cars in the top 10 in PASS points were inspected for engine and fuel rules compliance. The #44 engine, while having no truly illegal components, was found to be just barely outside the range of accepted measurement tolerances in some areas. For the details click on the Letter of Determination PDF below.
Trevor's 4th place finish was disallowed and the event earnings forfeited.

Wiscasset Raceway - Sunday, 8/17

Ben 18th in the #4, Trevor 13th in the #44
A back of the field draw for the #4 for heat five led to a tangle in turn three with Ben damaging the left side and heading off the outside of the track.
Ben returned after repairs for the last chance race just to make sure it ran and to a couple of stops for adjustments. The #4 received a provisional as PASS points highest position and started from 33rd. Slow progress thru the field was ended with a flat right front and the loss of several laps for a green flap pit stop.  Ben finished in 18th many laps down.

Trevor ran second to Corey Williams in heat 3 for an 8th place starting spot.
The #44 stayed in the lead group for almost all of the race until a turn four wreck involving other cars saw Trevor hit from behind as he slowed and knocked out of the race with only 1 lap to go for a 13th place.

  The Atlantic Cat 250
Scotia Speedworld
Halifax, NS
Sat. August 9th

Travis Benjamin sealed the deal Saturday night at Scotia Speedworld to earn his first PASS North Super Late Model feature win.

Benjamin crossed the finish line one car length in front of Ben Rowe.
Ben had led twice for 34 laps.

John Flemming, Mike Rowe and Adam Bates complete the unofficial top five. Benjamin is the ninth first time PASS Super Late Model winner of 2008.

Ben Places 3rd in the #4, Trevor 10th in the #44

After a rain-out on June 28th, PASS headed to All-Star Speedway for a unique Wednesday night show to make up the 200 lapper.

Working to the last moment to repair the #4 from the damage at Orange County Speedway, the RMR teams arrived in time only for the final
 tire scuff session.

In a contact, spin, and wreck filled extra distance event, the top cars put on a great show for the fans.

Ben Rowe ran the #44 renumbered to #4 to a
4th place finish after a poor run in the heat
forced a start from 18th place.

Ben and Travis Benjamin stand at the
top of the PASS North points tied with 1602.

Super Late Model Mini Series

THE SOUTHERN SIZZLER 200
July 19th - Orange County Speedway
TREVOR SANBORN IN THE RMR #44 WINS
over Cassius Clark  in the Chapman #8, Tom McCann Jr. #16, John Stancill #20, and Dean Clattenburg #39.

Ben Rowe
in the #4 was caught up in someone else's wreck early on and had the rear end knocked over.
Six or seven laps down after repairs were completed,
Ben just rode around to a 15th place finish.

BEN ROWE is also writing a journal for the July 19th & 20th weekend at SPEED51 HERE.

The "Rowe Report" is detailing his experiences at the PASS South race at Orange County Speedway (a $10,000 to win event in the PASS National SLM Championship Series) and also at the TD Banknorth 250 at Oxford Plains where multiple rain delays forced the race over to Monday where the competitors sat out a 3 1/2 hour delay.

In the Oxford 250, Ben started from 17th after scoring a 3rd in Heat 5. Ben
finished 5th after working up to 10th at lap 45 and 5th by lap 98. The top four were Cup Star Kevin Harvick, Glen Luce, Joey Pole, and Shawn Martin.

Ben Rowe Declared Winner
of Full Fendered Frenzy 75

Pole Starter Trevor Sanborn
5th in the RMR #44
NAPLES, ME, JULY 14, 2008 – The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North super late models made their annual trip to Thompson International Speedway Saturday night for a 75 lap shootout and The Full Fendered Frenzy definitely lived up to its billing. The wild night featured great racing, two attempts at a green, white, checkered finish and a post race ruling by PASS officials that declared Ben Rowe the event winner. Although Rick Martin took the checkers first, he was penalized for jumping the final green flag and relegated to second place in the official order of finish.

Martin took the lead at the initial green with Trevor Sanborn in tow. The duo was able to pull away from the pack early on. A lap six restart allowed Sanborn to take away the top spot for three laps before Martin regained the point.

Sanborn continued to challenge Martin and retook the lead on a lap fifty restart. Sanborn’s lead would once again be short lived as the bumps in turn one sent him skating up the track ,allowing Martin and local PASS stand out Derek Ramstrom by for first and second. Ramstrom’s run through the field was well received by the Thompson faithful, who have witnessed three consecutive weekly super late model wins by the West Boylston Massachusetts teenager.

Ramstrom and Martin put on a fearsome battle for the lead, but Martin slammed the door on Ramstroms’ repeated attempts to make a move on the bottom. The first green, white, checkered attempt of the night proved to be Ramstrom’s undoing; Martin moved up the speedway , making contact with Ramstrom who in turn made contact with the concrete, ending a great run that could easily have resulted in Ramstroms’ first PASS North victory.

The second green, white, checkered attempt saw Martin jump out in the lead with teammates Ben Rowe and Trevor Sanborn in hot pursuit. When the checkers flew the unofficial top five were Martin, Rowe, Johnny Clark, Sanborn, and Ramstrom. But Martin’s two car length jump prior to the drop of the green prompted series officials to declare the finish unofficial and the resulting review reversed the top two in the order of finish.

Statement by PASS President Tom Mayberry concerning the PASS super late model finish at Thompson International Speedway on Saturday July 12.

“One of the signature procedures of the Pro All Stars Series is great race restarts, side by side, with the flagman always starting the race. This is to provide a professional show for the fans and the competitors.

After reviewing this event it was determined that the #14 car of Rick Martin had numerous borderline restarts. On the final restart at lap 74, with no respect for PASS race procedures or his fellow competitors, he left on his own with a two car length lead. As all the drivers were told in the drivers’ meeting, you cannot steal a finish by jumping the restart. We felt his jumping of the restart cost any other driver a chance of winning and cost the fans an exciting, side by side finish.

Therefore, after careful review and much consideration we have penalized the #14 of Rick Martin one position and there will be a significant fine. We feel this action is necessary to maintain the integrity of our restart procedures.”
